FLASHBACK FRIDAY: The Saddest Birthday Ever

This story doesn't really have anything to do with me personally, but by popular demand, I have been asked to post these pictures by numerous people. Be advised that they have got to be the saddest pictures that you have ever seen.

This story begins with Kameron on his fourth birthday. We had a great party at Chuck E. Cheese. He thought it was so cool because, yes, his mom used to work there, and I knew all the tricks to the games. (That is a flashback Friday for another time!) Anyway, we had a great time, and then we had to head out for Hallee's first soccer game. Her games were played at South Mountain park in Draper. It was a chilly day, so to warm up, I asked Kam to go run and play with the other kids. I told him to run down the big hill. (Not a good idea!!) I took this picture as he was coming down, I turned to watch the game, and I heard a spine tingling scream. I turned to see what was wrong and I found Kam lying on his back, screaming for help, and from where I was sitting, I could see that he had broken his leg. (GAG!)

This is the big hill that I told him to run down, and let me tell you, when you go to the hospital and your child is really hurt, you get weird looks from the Dr.'s and the nurses when your child tells everyone your mom made you break your leg.
After he fell, Greg scooped him up and we went to Alta View Hospital, where he got excellent care. After all, his dad works in the ICU there. They gave him morphine as soon as we walked in, then took X-rays. Come to find out, he broke his femur, and they had to transport him to Primary Children's. While we were waiting for the ambulance, the staff brought him in birthday donuts and sang to him, and of course loaded him up with pain killers and presents.

This was the splint that Alta View Hospital put on, I thought that the cast would look similar to this. But, boy oh boy, was I ever surprised. (See other pictures)

We were lucky he didn't have to have surgery, but they still put him out to set the bone. After they wheeled him back, I was really surprised to find this sweet little chestnut of a contraption.
"What is it?" I asked. Yup, we had three months with this baby on. Three months without a real bath, three months of "How in the heck are we going to use the bathroom?" We had to put a pull up on him for editing purposes, because all we had was a little hole, and underwear was out of the question. We had three months of carting this guy around by his bar, and pushing him in his wheelchair, three months of back breaking work (literally, have you seen the size of this boy?) but I had three wonderful months of one on one time with my little guy. I had three months to get to know him better than I would ever imagine possible, I felt so needed, and so happy that I was a mother, we talked A LOT, and everyday I grew more and more grateful that I had such a sweet little boy.

I have mentioned this before, but my Grandpa Fyans passed away. Kam was in a wheelchair at his funeral. President Boyd K. Packer and Elder Jeffery R. Holland spoke at his funeral, and while we were walking out, they both came up and each one took a hand of Kams' and talked to him. It was one of the most precious moments I had ever seen, well until you heard him say, "Yeah my mom made me break my leg." They both just stared at me, and I wanted to crawl in a hole.

That is so sad!!! This must have not happened that long ago. I remember reading about your grandpas funeral in the church paper and that was while we were living here. I hope he is all better now. But that will always be a fun story for him to tell people.

Oh my! Oh my! What would you have done if Greg wasn't there? The part about being able to tell from far away that it was broken almost made me puke! May you never re-live those 3 months ever again...
