Beating the New Year

So, it seems to be that I have gotten into running. It is a shock, even to myself. I knew it happen sooner or later. My husband is a big runner, so it was bound to happen, but it took him 10 years to convince me.

Hallee, Greg, and I along with my brother Jim, his wife Tamara and my nephew Jordan ( the one giving the wonky smile) ran a quick 5K on New Years Eve. This is a way fun race that starts at 11:30 at night and you try to beat the New Year. We had a blast, but beating the new year with a seven year old, well... that is a different story.

Hals did great for about a mile and a half, she kept up with the whole group, but then she got one of those pains in her hip. You know the one, it feels like it is a muscle, or a ligament, or the bone, you can't really tell. Well that is what happened to Hallee. So I told her I would drop out with her and take her to the finish line to watch everyone else run it.

She wouldn't hear of it, she was just going to tough it out, although she had tears in her eyes. So my sweet husband picked her up and ran (when I say run, I mean more of a brisk walk) with her on his back. He kept it up for a while before he moved her to his shoulders and finished the race like this.

I know the picture is blurry, my father-in-law had my camera. They came in dead last, but not by much. I wish that you could have seen all the camera flashes, and could of heard all the people cheer for them as they crossed the finish line. I felt like my heart would burst open with pride. It was way cute to see.

So, a simple 5K down, next a half marathon, and then Greg wants me to be on his Ragnar Relay team. Yeah right!! That race is like 180 miles long, and plus, he has a dumb team name. So we will see.
