You know, Greg threw out an idea the other day. He suggested that I write a book. As I stood there staring at him with blank eyes, I am pretty sure I heard the distant sound of crickets chirping.
"What could I possibly say in a book that people would remotely be interested in?" I asked with a smirk on my face. (Although I was truly bewildered, to be honest, I was downright flattered, I love that guy.)
He replied "You have always been able to take a concept, even hard ones, and break it down so they are understandable. I have learned a lot from you and the way you think (I am blushing at this point) and I think that if you wrote these concepts down, people would really benefit."
Well Holy Smokes! Was my husband telling me that maybe I understood a few things about this thing we call life.
Although I was literally doing back flips in my mind, I wasn't about to show him that I was honored beyond anything, so I replied...
"You know Greg, I do have a college degree, and do you know what it is in? Childhood Education, that's what. It is my job to break things down into simple concepts, it is how we learn, and we paid a lot of money for me to be able to learn that."
Boy, that just came right out of my mouth. I guess all my college wasn't a waste after all. I have never used my teaching degree, but I refer to it often, isn't that just as good.
That Greg had to one up me, (that is just how he is) and he said...
"Not education concepts, concepts in the gospel, you have taught me so much about your simple views on the gospel and I learn from them each and everyday."
I was truly touched. I had tears in my eyes, and then he said...
"There I said it OK, I learn from you."
Now I know that this must have tasted like vinegar coming from his mouth because he has taken every religion class offered at BYU. His scriptures are so marked up with spiritual side notes and earth shaking thoughts that I shudder when I open my quad and they occasionally have a verse underlined. He knows his stuff I tell ya, but he studies it too. You should see all the lists and talks this guy has just to read on a moments notice. So you can see that I was a little shocked by this news.
"A book you say, well maybe so, I will have to think about it." I replied.
Secretly, I have been practicing my signature, just in case I ever do write a book and I have one of those book signing deals. Sheri Dew, you better watch out.
(I love Sheri Dew's books. I can't read one without feeling like a million bucks. I wasn't poking fun, I was just saying.)
